WELCOME
“Do stuff. be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration's shove or society's kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It's all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. stay eager.”
― Susan Sontag
Biography
The inclination to finance began during my first year out of high school, I had a lot to say about economies and their politics so I started a free blog, to my surprise, a few people were keen on reading what I had to say.
Subsequently, I immersed myself completely in the industry of finance and have since spoken alongside a panel of thought leaders on BBC World Radio regarding the Walmart/Massmart merger in South Africa, worked independently through my private consulting company (Perspective) and found myself in discussions with banking and tech CEOs regarding the future of the industry.
Working independently I quickly learnt my shortcomings: lack of niche experience and a lack of exposure.
I joined KPMG, where I focused mainly in the insurance, asset management and banking space. I participated in reviews of liquidity risk metrics in banking, vanilla and exotic derivative valuations and, served in outlining the way forward in Financial Surveillance for the South African Reserve Bank. All under the umbrella of Financial Risk Management, particularly within the Treasury and Market Risk space.
More recently, I head the assurance function for Absa Group’s largest risk exposure. As the Group Retail Credit Risk lead, I am responsible for delivering group-wide Board and regulatory requested reviews and engaging with and monitoring all Absa territories.
On the private side I run a foundation, Nkanyezi Foundation, that is built on child care and education.
